It’s understandable to get ‘translator’ and ‘interpreter’ mixed up. The terms ‘Translator’ and ‘Interpreter’ actually mark two different professions, although that was not always the case and some languages acceptably use one word for both roles. Translators render written works from a ‘source language’ (the language the document is written in) into the ‘target language’ (another language). On the other hand, interpreters provide oral translation, interpreting the meaning as well as the words spoken between speakers who speak different languages, usually in person or on the telephone.
Yes we do! Translation.ie provides a comprehensive service for translation and certification of various documents such as Birth Certificates, all manner of legal documents, Marriage/Divorce Papers, Degrees/Diplomas, Transcripts of Academic Results, Insurance Certificates, Adoption Papers, Medical Reports, References, Personal Correspondence, etc. In fact the default position is that we will produce translations that are Certified whether we stamp the translated document or not, this is because we are a certified translation service provider where we follow rules and procedure that ensure the certification process is followed. The rules and agreed standards are set out in ISO/EN 17100:2015, we are also insured to conduct these activities and we are a recognised Translation service provider by all Irish government agencies and EU wide government offices.
Sometimes it may be necessary to have your documents certified by affidavit and witnessed by a solicitor or notarised by a local public notary or certified by an embassy for various reasons, whatever the reason, we will be happy to help you get through the administrative difficulties when handing up translations of you document to another body who requires that the veracity of your translated documents is verifiable.
There are a lot of factors that determine the final cost of the job, but for clarity we will try to give you a quotation based on the number of words in the document or set of documents.
The price of each translation project varies due to factors such as the type of document, the length of text to be translated, how many translations (and languages) are required and the FROM - TO languages that your project must be translated. What format the document is in, whether we have to work with some specific systems to get the text for translation from your document, whether we have to spend a lot of time converting your document to be translated or how much formatting needs to be done afterwards. Whether we need to work with you on a technical solution such as a website project or database project or whether there is a lot of DTP required.
Larger documents will get discounts based on the volume of words and if there are a lot of words repeated in the text that don’t need to be translated.
If cost is prohibitive and if full human produced certified translation is not a requirement, of course there is always the option to consider alternative “low cost” or “fast translation” methods if appropriate. There are many alternative options, especially using modern technology that can include review processes, post editing processes, format-less processes, machine assisted or AI assisted processes that may be suitable for you, please see our business solutions section we can tailor a package for you.
Since each project is unique, the easiest way to calculate the cost of your translation project is to begin by requesting a free quote and we will go over your project, prepare a no obligation quote and get back to you personally.
If you have a lot of work or repetitive work, you may want us to project manage your translation workflow under our quality management system, or manage all your multilingual content at the lowest possible cost. If this is the case we will evaluate your requirements and quote you only for the management steps you require.
If your job is very large; a few thousand pages or more or you have a lot of content you can’t easily share, please feel free to write to email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org with a description of your needs and see how we can help you.
This is different in every case as each project is unique. The turnaround time for projects can vary depending on the length of the document, the nature of the project, the languages involved, and any post-translation work involved.
Generally speaking, a qualified translator can translate between 1500 to 2000 words per day. Similarly we require time to review the translated content to ensure accuracy and quality is of a sufficiently high standard.
The best way to determine the amount of time required to translate your project is to fill our quote request form and we will get back to you personally to give you a timescale.

Yes. We have professional interpreters to suit any of your needs. Whether that be in a highly confidential setting such as is the case in medical appointments or for legal consultations; we have discreet interpreters who are sensitive to the delicate nature of such situations. We can also attend other events, eg. Business Meetings, Community Interpreting (HSE, Social Welfare Offices, etc), Health and Safety Training, Civil Registration/Marriage Ceremony, and many more.
When booking an interpreter, you will need to provide us with the following information:
The nature of the assignment, whether it is Simultaneous Interpreting, Consecutive Interpreting, Telephone Interpreting, or Sign Language Interpreting. (If you are unsure of which service best suits your needs, we can help you to decide if you let us know the setting of the event, ie. a doctor’s appointment or a small business meeting with some non-English speakers)
The number of interpreters required.
Date, time and location where the interpreter(s) need to attend.
Contact details of the client.
Any specific requirements regarding the interpreter, eg. male or female, country of origin where the interpreter is from, any dialect involved, etc.
How we charge varies depending on the service required:
For simultaneous interpreting roles such as conference interpreting, there are a various array of considerations, not least of which is the setting and the preparation required. We usually charge a daily rate, depending on the availability of the interpreter, and any special skill sets, languages or domain specific requirements or if equipment such as headsets or audio booths and technicians need to be provided.
For consecutive interpreting roles, we charge on a per-hour basis. Also, based on the language and the location of the assignment, some travelling cost may apply. Please feel free contact our office for more details and to obtain a personalised quotation for your needs. Contract clients can avail of a 24 hours, 7 days a week, all year round, direct point of contact for emergency or ad-hoc arrangements. It is always best to give plenty of advance notice fro bookings to secure and schedule the best available interpreter for your needs.
Translation.ie. is proud to be able to provide interpreters for urgent same-day requests for the most commonly spoken languages throughout Ireland. However, as demand can naturally fluctuate, we suggest that for non-urgent assignments, get in touch to book your interpreter in as far as advance as possible, this is especially true for conference interpreting due to the preparations required and to schedule resources, because several types of events can occur at the same time, are seasonal and usually planned well in advance which is the norm. For less difficult settings and non urgent appointments requiring consecutive interpreting skills, for frequently encountered languages we have a team of 8 interpreting scheduling managers to manage appointments so at least 1-2 days prior notice is very prudent so we can shuffle things around, the more notice the better. For contract clients we operate a 24/7/365 ad-hoc service. Private clients will need to ensure they have allowed sufficient time to ensure we can set up your accounts before we can assign interpreters.
Our state of the art interpreter booking system sends audit and confirmation emails at each step of the process for all your appointments so you can be sure that things are running smoothly.
Consecutive Interpreting requires the speaker to stop after a few sentences and let the interpreter interpret the speaker’s statement. In Simultaneous Interpreting, the interpreter, who normally uses interpreting equipment and usually working in pairs in a soundproof booth, listens to the speaker’s speech in one language and simultaneously converts it into another language, interpreting language and cultural references into the target language on the fly, without waiting for the speaker to finish his or her statement. Simultaneous Interpreting is an extremely highly skilled area that requires immense personal ability, specialist training, education as well as superb linguistic talent, this type of interpreting is used for high-level conferences, while Consecutive Interpreting is used mostly for client meetings and depositions.

Translation is the changing of a text from a source language to a target language which is immeasurably valuable for the purpose of effective communication. Localisation is the process of taking that the message being conveyed within the piece of text and ensuring that it is effectively translated into the vernacular so that culturally relevant phrasings and markers are taken into consideration to tailor the translated piece specifically to the target local market. This process is done by professional translators who are also native speakers of the target language, often a specialist in a given field with a working knowledge of the topic and allowed a wider region to adapt the given text, thus guaranteeing that the finished translation conveys the right information in a manner suited to the language and the culture of the country concerned.
Localisation can also be a process of ensuring that the information you give your customers is correct for the country that it is being targeted to, ensuring things like the correct country address is shown as well as avoiding a cultural errors by replacing images or icons and avoiding using phrases that don’t translate well or mean the same in one culture or another. From an English speakers perspective one can also look at localisation from the point of view of being similar to changing the style of language to suit a US or GB market, adapting the style of writing, avoiding colloquialisms and making sure the correct logos and telephone numbers are used in the correct places.
